Writers Block
Your website is all done. You’ve created the perfect layout, complete with videos and graphics. You even have a plan for your Search Engine Marketing and your Social Media. Your buttons are hot. Your domain name is catchy. Your logo could never be better. You have everything...
EXCEPT
The word content.
And the words just aren’t coming to you.
Before you chew your virtual pen to a pulp or give yourself a quizzical expression in your monitor reflection, realize that the words will come in time. Everyone gets writer’s block.
The trick is to take your mind off the words and focus on the bigger message- what you want your website to say.
Here are some tips to follow to help you get started writing:
- Take a breather - If you have been sitting and working for a long time, get up and walk around. Sometimes it helps to get your body moving to reboot your creative juices.
- Take a cue from your website - If your page is ready and waiting for your content, get inspiration from your page. What do you think when you see the images/ pictures/ colors you have put there?
- Read - Research what other people have written about your subject/ product. It helps to see what else is out there so that you can
a: spur ideas and
b: make your message unique
- Brainstorm - Write all the things you might like to say (words, phrases, general message) and pick the ones that stick out to you the most. Once you have your basic information, then you can spruce it up.
- Positive Mindset - Remember, YOU are the expert about your subject, so you can compose an awesome message.
Make sure the message is concise, and use bullets to emphasize your main points. Your visitors will want to get as much information as fast as they can, but will still appreciate a good writing job!
